Your problems are hugely compounded by trying to do everything at once. As you've learned, it can be difficult to get a good alignment. Some electronic parts perform poorly in the cold. SCT's are dew prone. You have been lucky if you havn't yet needed a dew shield and dew heater....
CartoonOwl- you're only missing the SCT thread adapter. I use Meade or Celestron parts for this, they are easy to come by. The ad-hoc dew heater is useful if you have the power, but it is rough on the eyes. Don't let it bother you. ...
