Vapor Barrier MaterialsFor the purpose of this discussion, vapor barrier materials will be limited to sheets of membrane materials, though a vapor barrier can be any unbroken surface that is impermeable to water vapor such as spray-applied asphalt/latex. Membranes are most commonly made from high...
Vapor barrier The phrase vapor barrier is often used to refer to any material, typically a plastic or foil sheet, that resists passage of moisture through
In order to stop the moisture from entering the home from the underslab area, either the first barrier or the last barrier must be completely impermeable. “You want to have that water vapor transmission rate, or permeability of the material, on the lower end at the first point of interacti...
Barrier-Bac is a high performance, under-slab vapor barrier developed specifically for the concrete construction industry to block moisture migration through concrete slabs. Barrier-Bac prevents moisture from entering slabs, reducing the health risks of mold and ultimately the cost of mold remediation....

The barrier also prevents the concrete from clogging the gravel layer during the slab pour. In addition, the ASTM E 1745-09 (Standard Specification for Plastic Water Vapor Retarders Used in Contact with Soil or Granular Fill under Concrete Slabs) recommends a higher-quality barrier with the ...
in the concrete, and into carpet, vinyl tiles, hardwood floors and more. This causes expensive and unsightly problems in turn. The solution is to put a vapor barrier between the concrete slab and the ground itself — so what are the characteristics of a top-of-the-line vapor barrier?
Q.Are vapor barriers needed below slabs? What if the vapor barrier gets ripped when the concrete is placed? A.In a new home, it’s imperative to install a vapor barrier beneath an enclosed slab since ground moisture evaporating up through a slab is a major source of indoor humidity. Here...
This assembly has all of the thermal insulation installed on the interior of the concrete block construction but differs fromFigure 2since it does not have a vapor barrier on the exterior. The assembly also does not have a vapor barrier on the interior of the assembly. It has a large moistu...
From what I can tell from a state DNR fax, they recommend placing TWO layers of 4-mil vapor barrier underneath the concrete ramp.I understand the purpose for a vapor barrier inside a stucture but what is the purpose of this on an exterior slab?? Any idea what the DNR is thinking??
