In order to stop the moisture from entering the home from the underslab area, either the first barrier or the last barrier must be completely impermeable. “You want to have that water vapor transmission rate, or permeability of the material, on the lower end at the first point of interacti...
A.In a new home, it’s imperative to install a vapor barrier beneath an enclosed slab since ground moisture evaporating up through a slab is a major source of indoor humidity. Here the plastic sheeting is functioning as a capillary break, keeping moisture from wicking into the slab. Don’t...

However, other building science research indicates that it should be applied directly under the exterior finish and is sometimes itself the exterior finish. A combination air barrier/vapor diffusion retarder may be a better choice for this situation. Knowledgeable builders typically use vapor diffusion ...
vapor barrier as a result of installing all of the thermal insulation on the exterior side of the vapor barrier (which is also the drainage plane and air barrier in this assembly). In hot climates any moisture that condenses on the exterior side of the vapor barrier will be drained to ...

From what I can tell from a state DNR fax, they recommend placing TWO layers of 4-mil vapor barrier underneath the concrete ramp.I understand the purpose for a vapor barrier inside a stucture but what is the purpose of this on an exterior slab?? Any idea what the DNR is thinking??
