it looks like the save game limit for Sims 3 is 100 saves. It's something like 20 on the console back when I played on the 360, so 100 is definitely an upgrade but was a bit of a confusing surprise until I tried deleting a few old test games as per Zyffyr's suggestion. Thanks!
