However, UNLIKE a renderresult, blender also pack's the particle-data when you save the blend-file. Now this is a blistering nuisance, because these are HUGE, and what's more, they can be regenerated in split-seconds anyway, so why save the stuff... Maybe you can disable this somewhere...
