I'm a home user, and I have multiple copies of my files, so a NAS crash in the future wouldn't be a huge problem since I don't have to maintain perfect uptime. But if the NAS is killing hard drives, that's no good. When a Synology box goes bad, what does that look like?
Or is there something in the user interface I should do before pulling the drive? Will the recovery start automatically after swapping the drive? This is the first time I have had to replace a malfunctioning drive in a Synology NAS. Thanks in advance....

2TB drives in it. Everything is working great, but there are dozens of bad sector errors on drive 1. I got an RMA approved and a new drive from WD, but I'm wondering what the safest way to replace the bad drive it. Should I shut down the NAS, swap drives, and let it rebuild?
08:36:17 An I/O error occurred with the hard drive. When I checked out the NAS it now says everything is fine and there are no longer any bad sectors on the drive 1. I am confused as to what took place and if I need to replace the drives. Can anyone enlighten me on this? -...
