Hey, I'm having trouble understanding why the electron configuration is different between C2and O2, as in why is the 2sσ lower in energy then 2pi in one, but is the opposite in the other? How would I know how to set up the configuration if it was say CO?
The letters s, p, d, f, originally were used to classify spectra descriptively into series called sharp, principal, diffuse, and fundamental, before the relation between spectra and atomic electron configuration was known. Understanding the arrangement of electrons in atomsOverview of sublevels and ...
In both cases, the orbital collapse occurs within the same configuration when increasing the total angular momentum J, which characterizes the relativistic term of the atom in the jj coupling. All calculations are performed by means of the relativistic Dirac–Fock method....
Next, we write the electron configuration for Sc. When reading the periodic table from left to right we fill all the way to the 4s orbital and then fill a 3d orbital with the last electron. The electron configuration is1s22s22p63s23p64s23d1.The electron con...

have different sizes and one orbital will accommodate up to two electrons at most. the orbitals p, d, and f have separate sub-levels and will thus accommodate more electrons. as shown, each element’s electron configuration is unique to its position on the periodic table. q2 how do ...
2 Orbitals table This table shows all orbital configurations for the real hydrogen-like wave functions up to 7s, and therefore covers the simple electronic configuration for all elements in the periodic table up to radium. "ψ" graphs are shown with ? and + wave function phases shown in two...
