you equip one piece from a set and get the 2 piece bonus. I use 4pc Tatenashi, 3pc Warrior of the West, and whatever else to fill the other weapon and ranged slot. This is good for my current Odachi build, as well as an axe, but I would recommend other sets for an axe build...
