正辛醇是从椰子油制月桂酸的副产物。其存在于烤烟烟叶、甜橙油、圆柚油等精油中。能与乙醇、氯仿和乙醚混,不溶于水。该物质易燃。避免与强氧化剂、酸类、酰基氯接触。具伯醇的化学反应性,在氧化铝作用下脱水成辛烯。在催化剂存在下,可与酸发生酯化作用,氧化生成相应的醛或酸。
