曾就读于韩国首尔大学牙医预科,因追求演艺事业,于2003年选择退学,后进入中央大学戏剧学院。2000年金桢勋和崔正元以男子组合UN的形式出道,2005年组合解散。后因在人气电视剧《宫》中饰演男二号“律王子”一角,红遍全亚洲。2009年4月28日入伍服兵役,服役期间表现优异,获得军队授予模范士兵,2011年2月28日金桢勋退役。
