GED（General Education Development)是为失学青年设计的课程及考试，通过了可以取得普通高中同等学力。很多College或Adult School有GED课而且不贵。High School为普通高中。原则上高中毕业等於GED completion。有些美国大学於申请学生无法提出国外高中毕业证明时，会要求外国学生取得GED资格。
