As I understand, the main advantage is the development of Vulkan hardware decoding (hwdec=vulkan). But I'm not using any hwdec method. So, maybe it's possible to create some sort of fallback for Kepler's era GPU's, so they still can using gpu-api=vulkan without any new features, ...
