There are several things you can do if you receive a notice. Calm down and read it carefully. Not all IRS notices relate to tax audits.

don't hesitate to ask for as much time as you need, especially if the matter requires your involvement. Make sure you take meticulous notes of what the officer says during the hearing if the session isn't recorded.
